Area of the industry

Regarding the area of the industry, my first choice is 2D animation, My MA is character animation, and my BA was illustration and animation. Animation is the most vertical area. Although the income in this industry is very low (at least in the early stage), and the studios are all located in big cities with high consumption and high prices, overtime work is generally very extensive. Even if the initial salary may not be sufficient to fully support my daily life in a big city, I am willing to take on this challenge. I think the early stage of a career is an investment – not only the refinement of skills, but also a test of patience, perseverance, and creative passion. As long as I can keep making progress, accumulate experience in practice, and gradually build up my own portfolio and industry connections, I believe I will eventually find my own place in this area.

Secondly, there is the gaming industry. It offers a relatively larger number of employment opportunities, but the market is also highly saturated. Besides character design, cutscene animation, and character performance, there are roles such as art promotion and live 2D. Most of their studios are located in the same cities as animation studios, mostly in high-consumption areas. Although overtime work is common, benefits for employees at large companies tend to be relatively better.
